It works by reducing the amount of acid produced by your stomach. Omeprazole (Nexium) is a proton-pump inhibitor (PPI) used to treat stomach and esophagus problems. It reduces the amount of acid that your stomach produces and relieves symptoms such as pain, redness, bloating, upset stomach and vomiting. Omeprazole is only available with a doctor's prescription.

While taking Omeprazole, avoid taking it with dairy products, antacids, iron, antacids, magnesium or paracetamol. These substances can lower your blood sugar and lead to feelings of low energy. Also, eat a high-fiber diet, which means you can more easily digest food. Have a slow heart rate, avoid alcohol, recreational drugs and smoking.
What should I do if I miss a dose of Omeprazole?
If you miss a dose of Omeprazole, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.

The lowest effective dose (Esomeprazole) is recommended for adults. It is recommended to start with 20 mg (Esomeprazole) to be used for 4 weeks or as recommended by the manufacturer. The dose may be increased in subsequent weeks if needed. The dose should not be higher than the starting dose (Esomeprazole).

July 20, 2013— --The U. S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued an alert for “Z-Pack Nexium,” a generic form of omeprazole, for sale from Walmart in the U. The drug is being sold under the brand name Protonix. It is indicated for the treatment of reflux disease, heartburn, stomach pain, ulcers and acid reflux. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has not received any new drug approvals for the drug.
The FDA warns that “the safety of proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) has been reviewed by the U. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and it is not approved for use in children under the age of 18.” The drug should not be used in patients with certain heartburn (acid reflux) and other stomach disorders. The warning does not apply to omeprazole and other generic omeprazole products. The warning states that the safety of PPIs is not established. The drug should not be used in patients with heartburn. The drug should not be used in patients with stomach ulcers.
The FDA issued the following alert on Nov. 6, 2013:
“The safety and efficacy of Protonix in adults with reflux disease and gastric ulcers have not been studied in children, and the safety and efficacy of proton pump inhibitors in children under the age of two years has not been studied in pediatric patients,” the FDA says.
“This alert is in response to an FDA petition filed by the U. National Institutes of Health, which was submitted to the FDA in 2003, which states that a ‘proton pump inhibitor’ is contraindicated in children under the age of two years and a ‘proton pump inhibitor’ is contraindicated in pediatric patients. The FDA has not received any new drug approvals for the use of proton pump inhibitors in children under the age of two years.
“The FDA does not recommend the use of proton pump inhibitors in patients under the age of two years, and the FDA has not received any new drug approvals for the use of proton pump inhibitors in patients under the age of two years.”
